8 Fall Foodie Events You Can’t Miss

While you are staying at the San Juan Island Inn Collection this fall, you are in for a number of memorable dining events. Not only will you enjoy a savory farm-to-table breakfast but a bounty of foodie activities that are not to miss. There are special farm-to-table wine dinners, farm parades, and other activities to keep a foodie satiated during your stay all part of the 11th annual Savor the San Juans. It is a county-wide festival happening from September 9 – November 10th, 2018.

September

1. San Juan Island Farm Tour

September 9, 2018 at Brickworks (150 Nichols St. Friday Harbor, WA 98250)
10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

Our first dining event is the infamous San Juan Island Farm Tour is a unique opportunity to visit farms on the island. Join us for the 2018 San Juan Farm Tour and discover the local bounty!

2. Friday Harbor Bike-n-Brew!

September 15, 2018 on San Juan Island various routes

The San Juan Lions Foundation in Friday Harbor is pleased to announce our next annual fundraising event: Friday Harbor Bike-n-Brew. This event brings together visitors with local islanders on a fun biking tour of the island, followed by an evening of relaxing and microbrew-tasting.

3. Roccafiore Winemakers Dinner at Coho Restaurant

Join Coho Restaurant for an Italian fall harvest dinner featuring Umbrian “farmhouse” wines. Think pumpkin risotto, duck, braises, mushrooms and vino rosso. We are pleased to welcome back Jack Chase from Maritime Wine Trading Company. He will introduce us to the wines from the Roccafiore winery and Leonardo and Luca. Additionally, this father son team planted the vineyard and built the winery based on their deep bond for the landscape and hills of Todi. These certified organic and food-friendly wines are made with traditional Italian varietals including grechetto, trebbiano, sangiovese, multipulciano, multipulciano. However, Leonardo and his son Luca are committed to sustainable wine making techniques as they have a long standing respect for the centuries old ecologic balance of the landscape. Their wine is the liquid witness of their commitment that wine making begins in the vineyard.

This dinner will kick off our fall Savor the San Juan dinner series. Chef will prepare a 5 course Italian dinner paired with their wines. These evenings are always memorable and sell out fast!

4. Friday Harbor Fall Farm Parade

October 6, 2018
2:30 p.m.
Free Admission

The parade will once again depart the San Juan County Fairgrounds at 2:30 p.m. onto Argyle, travel down Argyle, Spring Street, turn left on First Street, and terminate at the Grange Hall for after-parade celebration at the Grange Hall.

5. Orcas Project Winemakers Dinner at Coho Restaurant

Join sommelier Cole Sisson, founder of the ‘The Orcas Project” for a  wine dinner featuring their special production wines. Cole, a native of Orcas Island, and his wife Stephanie collaborate with acclaimed winemakers and vineyards in the Pacific Northwest to produce small private projects of 50-150 cases. These food-friendly wines feature labels designed by Orcas Island Artist Carlin Hayworth. Each animal on the label corresponds to a different winemaker in the project.

6. Spire Collection Educational Seminar & Wine Dinner

Friday, October 19th at Coho Restaurant (120 Nichols St. Friday Harbor, WA 98250)
Seminar at 5:00 and single dinner seating at 6:00 p.m
Pre-dinner seminar is $25. Those that attend the seminar will receive a $25 credit toward wine purchase. Dinner is $55/person and $50 for the optional wine pairing.

Please join us for lively evening of wines hosted by San Juan Island native, Travis Morrissey, manager of the Spire Collection of Wines. The wines of the Spire Collection express the unparalleled terroir from some of the finest vineyards around the world. This is a truly impressive portfolio featuring wines from Oregon to Bordeaux, California to Tuscany. The wineries in the collection are committed to honoring tradition in wine making, integrity in the vineyards and, ultimately, quality in the glass. We’ll travel the world exploring our neighbors to the south, tasting 5 wines paired with Chef’s fall harvest dishes.

Chef will prepare some tasty nibbles to enjoy during the seminar portion of the evening. Next, the pre-dinner seminar is $25 and begins at 5:00. Those that attend the seminar will receive a $25 credit toward the purchase of 5 bottles of wines. These evenings are always memorable and sell out! This is one of the dining events not to miss.

7. Eat Island Grown – Tasting Event

You’re invited to another of our dining events, the Island Grown Tasting Event showcasing San Juan Islands chefs, and the farmers that make that food possible! Using fresh, quality products from San Juan County farms, local chefs will prepare delicious samples for you to enjoy. Come for a bite or make a meal of it. Locally produced soft and alcoholic beverages will make it a full gourmet adventure. Plus, proceeds benefit programs of the San Juan Islands Agricultural Guild, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit.
