Five Tips for Healthy San Juan Island Travel

Traveling isn’t the time to leave all your healthy practices at home.

If you are making it out to the San Juan Islands this year (or wherever you’re going, for that matter!), here are some tips you can use to ensure your vacation time is maximized and you are feeling at your best.

1. Have a Happy Wallet

San Juan Island FerryThere’s nothing worse than feeling like you spent too much on something. As an island destination, there are higher costs associated with getting here, staying here, eating here, etc. Not to mention all the fantastic tours and whale excursions you won’t want to miss. But take it from a local, there are several ways you can be smart with your spending and still enjoy San Juan Island for everything it has to offer. We dove deep into this subject in a past blog: Read our Budget-Friendly Vacation Tips Blog.

 2. Eat Well

There are several island producers who provide the restaurants with organic meats, fruits, vegetables, dairy, etc. Visit our partners at Coho Restaurant for a farm-fresh meal you can feel good about in every sense of the word! With local seafood, meat and produce and homemade pasta and desserts, everything is sourced locally. Enjoy your meal while knowing the ingredients are pure, fresh, and local.

 3. Skip the Seated Tours

If cruising in a whale watching boat is what you’re after, go for it! There are several amazing companies in town. But if you are looking to get a bit of exercise, a kayaking/whale watching tour is an option for all ages and skill levels. 4. Leave the Gadgets Behind

Truly consider leaving your laptop and phone behind on your escape to the San Juans. (Honestly, there’s not great cell reception anyway unless you have Tmobile). To fully make the most of your travel experience and give yourself a little mental rejuvenation, let go of the e-connectedness of home and work and breathe in the fresh San Juan air. You won’t regret it!

 5. Catch Some Real Zs
